Math Maze
Reach the red exit with exactly the target value.
What Is a Math Maze?
A math maze is a maze with a twist: the walls don't block you — numbers do. Your token carries a running total, and every cell you step on rewrites it with an operator: ×2 here, −5 there, ÷3 somewhere else. The exit only opens when your value lands on the target exactly. It's a maze you solve with arithmetic and planning rather than trial and error.
How to Play: Operators Change Your Running Total
- Your token starts on the yellow cell carrying a starting value.
- Move with arrow keys, swipes, or the on-screen pad — one cell per move.
- Stepping on a cell applies its operator to your value: +3, −5, ×2, ÷3.
- Reach the exit when your value is exactly the target — fewer steps means more stars.
- Math Maze generates a fresh level for every stage, plus one shared daily maze at midnight UTC.
The Rules: No Negatives, No Overflow, Exact Division Only
Three guard rails keep every maze fair. Your total can never go below zero, so a −5 cell with 3 in hand simply refuses the move. Values can never overflow past 9999 — no runaway doubling chains. And division must be exact: ÷3 on a 7 does nothing. Every generated maze is checked by a solver before you see it, so a route that hits the target exactly always exists.
Math Maze Tips: Work Backwards From the Target
The strongest move in a math maze is thinking in reverse. If the target is 24 and a ×3 cell sits next to the exit, you need to arrive at that cell holding 8 — so the real goal becomes "reach 8". Keep unwinding multiplications backwards until the numbers get small, then walk the addition and subtraction cells forward. Also watch for ×1 and ÷1-style dead cells, remember that crossing an operator applies it even if you step on it twice, and count your steps — par is achievable.
